Husband and I had a little disagreement last night. In short, I felt that he was walking around pretending he was helping when really he was…well…walking around pretending. He disagreed. I escalated things (maybe a wee bit). He disagreed a little more vehemently. And then I ultimately ended the “discussion” by taking a half of an onion that was in my hand and winging it across the room towards him as he stood at the sink. In a highly satisfying result, the onion bounced off and exploded nicely into ten or so messy onion bits as I turned and huffed out of the kitchen to put Little Brother to bed.
A little later, as I’m reading in Little Brother’s bedroom, I heard Big Brother wander into the kitchen and ask Husband of my whereabouts.
“She’s putting your brother to bed.”
“Oh.”
Pause.
“Hey, Dad?”
“Yeah?”
“What’s that stuff on the floor?”
“Oh, those are onions. Your mother was just throwing onions at me.”
Marriage.
Throwing onions.
I mean, come on. There’s humor in it, no?
Total humor in it. And when both parties are laughing in the end, it’s a good marriage.
Well, I’m laughing out loud. Totally something I would do. And as I’m laughing out loud, my little munchkin is laughing out loud even harder because I’m laughing.
Last night I heavily “debated” with my husband my concern that my little one’s wicked cough could be pneumonia. The response of the Dr. of our house was, “She doesn’t even have a fever.”
Just returned from the real doc and guess what? She has pneumonia. Maybe I’ll throw an onion when he walks in the door instead of saying “I told you so.”
I actually snorted a little…
Isn’t it rewarding when it hits him instead of going astray and hitting the wall?
I think I am glad that you didn’t have anything sharp in your hand at the time….
Maybe one day your kids will yell at an annoying bully in the play yard, “Stop it or I’ll throw an onion at you!” 🙂
I would have thrown the knife I was using to cut the onions : )
Loved your blog so much I am reading back posts. this post made me really laugh out loud we have the quote “live well, laugh often and love much” over our dinning room one night after a series of mishaps and I was walking/stomping up the stairs like the grown up I am, hubby shouted the quote upstairs to me. I burst out laughing and he did as well. Marriage it’s great!
P.S. I live in a mixed marriage as well hubby is a big Yankee fan We live in CT and I see no reason why he should be a fan of that team.
Thank you and WELCOME! So glad to have a new kindred spirit reading.
Yeah, the Yankee thing is tough. Particularly for my DIE HARD mother who can barely stand to see my three year old in a Jeter shirt. Ouch.
I love this post!…The kitchen can get mess! LOL
